Why Nontoxic Cookware Is Getting a Closer Look
The guide starts with a question a lot of home cooks are asking: what is my cookware actually made of? Many traditional nonstick pans rely on PTFE, the coating best known as Teflon, which belongs to the same chemical family as PFAS, often called "forever chemicals." For anyone looking to cut down on that exposure, Yahoo Health recommends shopping for cookware labeled PFAS-free or PTFE-free and pointing toward materials that don't need a chemical coating to perform: stainless steel, carbon steel, ceramic, and cast iron.
To build the list, the team spoke with experts and put a wide range of cookware sets and individual pans through real kitchen testing.
Forge, Named Best Cast Iron
Williams pointed out something most cast iron shoppers know well: you usually buy it one piece at a time, a skillet here, a Dutch oven there. Forge gives you the full kitchen at once, with a skillet, a grill pan, two saucepans, and a soup pot, plus three lids.
The review highlighted that the set is naturally PFAS-free and builds its own nonstick surface the more you cook with it. It works on every cooktop, induction included, and can go right over an open flame, so the grill pan can handle veggies on the backyard barbecue and the soup pot can come along for chili at a cold-weather campout.
On value, the review was clear that Forge is an investment, and one that pays off because cast iron doesn't scratch or wear down the way coated nonstick and ceramic pans eventually do.
"It really is one that you can use for a lifetime." — Laura Williams, Senior Editor, Yahoo Health
The review also gave a fair heads-up that cast iron is heavy and the handles get hot, so keep pot holders or handle sleeves close by.
Why We Make It in Cast Iron
We build induction appliances, and induction works by heating the pan itself through magnetism. Cast iron is naturally magnetic, so it pairs with induction about as well as any cookware can: fast to respond, even to hold heat, and free of coatings that can wear off over time.
That's the thinking behind Forge. No coatings to replace, no chemicals to second-guess, just cookware made to be handed down.
